Glide Multi Format Camera System

Glide Camera

This camera is for you only if your very serious about photography. The GILDE 66-17 MST Super 3D is simply amazing. It shoots on 120/220 film (kept in a removable magazine for easy ISO swapping mid roll) in formats from the traditional square 6×6 to the mega panoramic 6×23. It will even accept a variety of stereo lens boards. And if that isn’t enough, it will also do tilt shifting to correct perspective distortions. This is some serious camera hardware! A base camera will set you back about 4,000 Euros, fully loaded runs around 20,000 Euros. To me, if I had the money, it would be a perfectly fantastic camera. It’s got all the bells and chrome you could want in a medium format camera.

DIY Diffuser

A nice way to soften the effects of an on camera flash is to add diffusion to it. Here is a handy little one made out of a slide box that fits on a Nikon D70.

Mannequin Series

In Uncategorized on October 31, 2005 at 7:58 pm

From the site:

“there is absolutely no airbrushing or digital manipulation in the photos on this page. The magic of these photos is the meticulously planned image alignment. I shot these using film, locking the camera to a tripod and then taking two photos one after the other. It’s old-school photo montage, nothing more.”

Frozen Rose Photos

In Uncategorized on October 24, 2005 at 5:01 pm

This is a series of photos taken with a sound sensor connected to a flash. The subject (the rose) was frozen in liquid nitrogen and then shot with a rifle. The rifles report triggered the strobes that were attached to the flashes. All were taken with a D100 f-4 – 5.6 1.3uS exposure.

Medium Format Pinhole Lego Camera

Very clever project. He built himself a pinhole camera out of LEGO bricks. It uses 120 roll film and sports a film counter! I might use that in my next pinhole camera myself…

This is a compact wide angle (16:9) digital camera. Not as wide as say a swing lens Horizon 202 but it will give you images with a nice aspect ratio.

Realtime LCD for DSLR

This is a handy device, I;m wondering why I haven’t seen this in other blogs…
You attach a little doover to the viewfinder to your camera that lets you see your viewfinders display on a moveable LCD. This would be real handy for those times where you want to shoot over your head or real low.

Corpse Bride Has Many Tech Firsts

In Uncategorized on September 29, 2005 at 12:54 pm

Corpse Bride is a movie of many firsts; it’s the first feature-length, stop-motion film edited using Final Cut Pro, it’s the first feature shot using commercial digital SLR still photography cameras and it’s the first movie to choose digital cameras over film cameras based on the criterion of image quality.

Tortuga 5

In Uncategorized on September 15, 2005 at 6:37 pm

The Tortuga (turtle in Spanish) is a five hole pinhole camera that will make either a 240 degree panoramic at once or sequentialy. the example above is what you get if you trigger each shutter while you have it pointed at different objects. Photo merging can have some pretty dramatic results. Someday I will build one of these, or buy one if I can afford it.

High-Res Photo of Manhattan shortly after 9/11/2001

Yes, it it a big file, if your computer is slow you should save it off.

*NOTE* Link is to a directory holding the image. Because the image is so large (14MB @ 9372 x 9372 pixels) clicking the image could freeze your browser. I recommend saving the image by right-clicking and opening it with a program like Photoshop. Image taken on Sept. 23, 2001 from an altitude of 3,300 feet.

Week long paper exposure

In Uncategorized on September 13, 2005 at 7:24 pm

This is the (pretty much) original image from my seven day long exposure of my photogram (blueprint) paper test. The image would have been sharper but being open like that for so long there was a serious issue with halation (light bouncing off the emulsion and reflecting back off the camera on to the paper again).

The Pod

In Uncategorized on September 8, 2005 at 2:25 pm

I’m so glad that this has a 1/4″ screw mount on it, just a bean bag is great to have if your not in the mood to haul a tripod around but it’s a pain when you try and position the camera just right. Almost always it will slide a bit and then your back to moving it around again.
Should have some suction cups on it just for good measure but then again the idea isn’t exactly new. I seem to remember seeing something like this a few years ago in a Porters catalog.
